This book takes place between the events of the first two games, ‘Halo: Combat Evolved’ and ‘Halo 2.’ It answers some questions for us: How did the Master Chief get back to Earth? How did Sergeant Johnson survive the Flood infection and the destruction of Halo Installation 04? How did Blue Team survive the glassing of Reach? And how did the Covenant discover the location of Earth? After the end of the first game’s events, we assume the Master Chief was able to lean back and relax as he returned to Earth. But unfortunately, he was quickly back in the saddle to survive the Covenant and to protect Humanity from their impending invasion of Earth.

As a fan of the Halo games I have really loved these books so far. They give you so much extra lore and worldbuilding to the halo universes.
I really enjoyed meeting other Spartans from the Spartan 2 program and getting to see how a team of Spartans operate. Even the small glimpses of personality and rolls each provides to the team.
I don't know if I wasn't a fan of the games if I would like this as much. As far as stories goes it was interesting but felt like I was playing the games and not really listening to the book. I think this would definitely land differently to only readers, but I did enjoy it and thought it was fun.
