While I really enjoyed reading this text, I almost felt like even though Halberstam was saying that female masculinity should not be assumed as indicative of sexuality, that she still directly connected them as essential. But that also could have been me. Loved it anyway!

Could have been much more revelatory and philosophically groundbreaking, but it felt like Halberstam spent far more time on review and synopsis than on his own statements regarding masculinities.

This book is verbose, and I certainly don't agree with all of it, but it is full of ideas, and, as I wanted, helps put my life in context.

Interesting and well-written but CW: binary verbage and erasure of bi/pan experiences.
slow-paced

A very interesting overview of female masculinity, which is a bit of a misnomer from the timeframe in which it was written. Particularly interesting was the chapter on butch/FTM boarder wars and the intracommunal battles between trans narratives. These are still going on 23 years later in various rings, but I think Halberstam's analysis of whom is allowed to feel at home in their bodies is a very nuanced point of view that I haven't seen articulated before.
