Lovely! The main character is an archivist, and the author’s enthusiasm for it is infectious. The gender conversations and feels were very relatable and realistic.

It’s uncanny when you find yourself in a book, but the exploration of finding a gender fluid lover, and working through gender and identity in a sexual/loving way, it’s something I’ve longed for and never been given. Vamps are important to me, maybe they’re important to you for different reasons. But Isaac Fellman has a tact for understanding the assignment. Maybe I just relate because I’m similar to him, and I often think of what my life would be like if I didn’t find slash fanfic so early on in life. Resistant to intimacy, Sol, the main character vampire-archivist, finds a way to be in love. It’s just excellent, idk. This is not a really good review, but this book is an excellent example of how i would continue to read trans-fantasy-fiction, especially if it was serialized ;). Give this man more book deals, haha!!!

An eccentric, heartfelt exploration of the paraphernalia people hold dear, the bodies we create for ourselves, and the different ways it’s possible to love both these things.

not unenjoyable by any means but I was not in the right headspace for this type of book. too existential in a way I was not ready for.

I enjoyed the similarities drawn between transness, vampirism, and archives. It was really interesting to think of the main character whose body was essentially frozen in time at the beginning of his transition. I thought the approach to vampirism as a condition was really interesting and unique as well. The touch of a world in which vampires are common knowledge, and yet society not evolving to be accessible for them is unfortunately realistic.
I found the descriptions of the fictional Feet of Clay fascinating. An interesting take on that era of sci-fi programming. I was amused that some of the arguments the characters are now embarrassed about are still being re-hashed in fandom today!
The relationship between the two leads was too based on sex/sexual desire to really be interesting to me, but I liked the personal character growth it brought to each of them.
