This book was good and definitely kept me interested the whole time, and I enjoyed the twists along the way. It was really long though!

This book was INTENSE. A few trigger warnings for sexual abuse would be needed before recommending, and it’s very action packed so was a quick read. The story of two sisters who went through abuse as kids and how the past has come back to haunt them. Also the first book I’ve read with COVID as part of the setting/plot so that was interesting as well.

I have been reading KS for years, and this is one of the few times I regret not reading the synopsis beforehand. Maybe I will feel differently a few years down the road, but the last thing I wanted was to experience was COVID in a book. I read for escape and would not have read this one had I known in advance. I understand/support her feelings about wanting to include the real life struggles we will face for a generation. Some aspects of the criminal justice side was too unrealistic to be believable. I loved the relationship between Calli and Leigh and all they endured out of sibling bonds.

I am uncertain if my tastes have changed, but KS's last few stand-alones feel less riveting and more violent.

5 stars!
I just checked, and it's been 2 whole years since I've read a Karin Slaughter book - I can't for the life of me understand why, because this was SO GOOD! I love her books because she is the only author that can write a thriller that will actually make me tear up at the end. There's something so raw and emotional about the way she writes her characters that I deeply relate to, and this one is no exception.  I loved Callie and Leigh's relationship so much and the way they continued to love and accept each other through all of their flaws and mistakes. You can tell that Slaughter did a ton of research as well to support not only the setting here, but the topics at hand. The conversation around addiction especially felt extremely well-researched and timely, and I found myself highlighting quite a bit. It was also very interesting to be back in the height of covid for this and it definitely added to the intensity of the story. Will need to pick another one up by her soon!

A great twisty thriller.
Very dark themes so might not be everyone's cup of tea. There was a very slow build up to the story getting going and there were a lot of over describing things, describing things like the reader is so thick they haven't worked it out already that I could have done without.
