This was an odd read for me. In a way, it was relaxing. Shattuck is very observant and thoughtful in his Thoreau-like journeys. It's pleasant to read someone else be mindful and honest of their experience in such beautiful places. It's also weirdly fascinating to me as Shattuck lives near where I used to. His descriptions of the Southcoast of MA are idyllic, but I had such a different experience (and many do because the cost of living is eeeek), it's hard to take some bits of it seriously. He recognizes his privilege a little on his walks and explains the land has been in his family for generations but I often felt a bit eye-roll-y "poor little privileged boy" while reading. I guess this is my problem.

At any rate, those that like Thoreau, New England, nature, memoir-like stuff would be interested in this.
