Fake dating, workplace romance, grumpy x sunshine, and werewolf shifters - The Fake Mate has it all!

We follow Mackenzie (Mack) and Noah, who are both werewolf shifters working as doctors at the same hospital. Mack is sick of her grandmother setting her up on bad dates, and Noah has the board on his back about being an Alpha (who are notoriously dangerous when unmated). When they agree to be fake mated to satisfy both of their issues, what could go wrong?

This was such a delightful read! I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two main characters, and Mack's friends. Mack and Noah really get under each other's skin, fight, and then, finally, the fake feelings resolve into something real, which is always satisfying. Noah is a big sweetheart deep down, and Mack realises that maybe, the entire male population isn't to blame for her bad dates.

Perfect if you love:

🐺 workplace romance
🩺 grumpy x sunshine
🐺 fake dating
🩺 dual POV
🐺 omegaverse

I listened to this one on audiobook, which was delightful and a really easy listen.

3.5⭐️ Cute and sexy! I love how Mackenzie and Noah are both doctors, but they also just so happen to be werewolves and it is totally normal in their society lol. The plot isn’t strong to be honest. I like the spicy scenes, but once they start going at it, they just don’t stop, and the plot gets muddled in it all. I’m never one to complain about too much spice, but the sex in The Fake Mate just isn’t interesting enough to overpower the book like it does. The scenes are all very similar, and when a book is full of explicit scenes, variety is the spice of life as they say. Also, the word “slick” is forever imprinted in my brain now and I’m not pleased about it

I both loved this book and was not into it as much as I wanted to be at the same time. The writing style is expressive and descriptive; it has possibly the most sex scenes I've read in a book, and it plays out the grumpy and sunshine trope beautifully! I love that they're all doctors, too. It's nice to be reminded that smart people can be horny and sexy, etc.
BUT (relatively big but) I'm not really into the Omegaverse stuff. Dom/sub I can roll with (which again is done great here!), but the wolf anatomy with knots, scent glands, and slick threw me for a loop. No shade if it's your cup of tea, I just don't think it's mine.
