There’s nothing spectacular in this book ~ but if you’re looking for low angst, a little humor, and watching a relationship beyond the initial “we’ve worked out the big roadblocks HEA”, this is a good one. It’s a nice change when “the big fight/misunderstanding” happens at about 65% is solved by 75% and the last 25% is enjoying the HEA. Of course there’s set up for books 2 & 3 in there ~ but not so much that you feel the original MC’s are being ignored.

Giovanni’s been burned in the past and it makes him keep up some walls but not in a consistently asshole-ish way. Certainly not where you feel Caleb is a doormat, which is nice.

Carter & Mr Greene were great for comic relief as was some of the banter between Caleb and Gio. I’m also happy that Gio and Micah have this long standing friendship that isn’t and never was romantic. Imagine that, gay dudes can really be just friends with each other.

3 stars for being a nice read and looking forward to the rest of the series.

I just loved this book. I don't have anything negative to say. Gio and Caleb were awesome. I can't wait to read about Carter and Landon because I know there has to be sequels for them.

I really enjoyed Giovanni and Caleb's story.

Gio has a lot of baggage in his past that he's struggling to get over. He was never prepared for Caleb. Caleb is this sweet, caring, loving person. I absolutely loved the banter Caleb has with his family. It had me laughing several times. Caleb's family also opens their arms to Gio and welcomes him so easily into the family. I loved the parts with Caleb's family.

I also loved all the family feels you get from Gio's restaurant Romero's. This is really a tight-knit world, and I loved every part of it.

Can't wait to continue with the rest of the series.

Reads like poorly written fan fiction. Boring characters. I just don’t care.

I liked the story up until 40% and then...no more. The second half was really a NO.

This was such a heartfelt book. I could really feel what the characters were feeling and I laughed and cried with them. One of my favorite things was the sappiness, yes yes I know, it's not for everyone but sappiness is good once in a while.

I really liked Giovanni and Caleb individually and together. Their chemistry was great and the dynamic between them and the rest of the characters was very well written. Both are amazing characters with big hearts and I'm so glad the story went the way it did.

Wholesome, feel good, low-drama romance. Recommended to kill some time if you can get it free or Kindle Unlimited.

Title: Feeding the Soul
Author: Annabella Michaels
Series: Souls of Chicago
Genre: M/M Contemporary Romance

Main Characters:

Giovanni Romero is a divorcee dedicated to his true love - his restaurant. After his parent’s death and his ex-wife’s abandonment, he sticks to pouring his emotions into his restaurant, Romero’s, and keeps his relationships casual to avoid being hurt again.

Caleb Greene is a young chef whose traveled across Europe to study his craft, but is ready to return home to Chicago to be close to his tight-knit family. Caleb is ready to settle down, get his dream job, and start a life - hopefully with a husband and kids.

Plot/Conflict:

Giovanni, or G, or Gio has been out of town a lot recently, and upon getting back, decides to hit a club and hook up rather than going back to an empty house. Caleb is out with his brother celebrating his new job as a head chef, and his return to Chicago. The two have this amazing dance that leads Gio to take Caleb home with him. Even after G explains that he doesn’t do relationships, Caleb is willing to throw caution to the wind despite never having a one-night stand. They share an amazing, off-the-charts night together, and despite them both realizing it could be more, G sends Caleb packing in the morning.

Of course, you know where that goes. Caleb’s head chef position is at Romero’s, G’s restaurant manager hired him right before G got back into town. G’s immediate reaction is that this can never work - his one night stand working in the restaurant can’t possibly be anything other than awkward. But Caleb’s talent and assurance of propriety has them deciding to work together. But with such an amazing night between them, and an eomotional connection building in the time spent together has G reevaluating what he always believed about relationships after his disastrous marriage. Caleb’s sweet nature, and his loving family might be too much for G to resist.

Loves:

While I mentioned this book sailed along, it didn’t have enough uniqueness to really have anything that stood out at a “love”.

Likes:

I really did like that the book sailed along with minimal drama. There was some jealousy drama, and an obviously predictable and unavoidable “I-can’t-do-this” moment, but otherwise the book was smooth sailing and easy reading.

I did like the other characters introduced, and I absolutely willing to read Carter or Micah’s stories.

Peeves:

I felt that Caleb was too sweet to be believable, I mean toothache sweet. He has absolutely no background drama, or really any depth. I was less than interested in him as a person. He didn’t stand out as a unique character.

While G was a little more unique, it was only his pain over his wife’s abandonment that made him stand out more than Caleb. And I was less than thrilled with that storyline anyway. G’s character came across as weak and overly accommodating to this witch of a wife, and then completely loses all romantic interest when she leaves him…. eh.

Favorite Quote:
“Will you spend a lifetime fight over the remote with me and arguing about whose turn it is to take out the trash? Will you be a father to my children and spend your days off training for sexlympics with me? [...] Giovanni Michello Romero, will you marry me?”
