I read this book because I was looking for something a little more light-hearted and fun than my recent literary diet of grim/dark fantasy, thrillers, and horror novels. I've read Alex Bell's two adult novels and liked them immensely and Lex Trent did not disappoint. It was a fun little novel, reminding me quite a bit of Artemis Fowl, except that Lex is more of a blue collar criminal and more self sufficient that Artemis ever was. It wasn't a particularly brilliant book. I wasn't surprised by it, but I was entertained, which is exactly what I was looking for. I've already started to read the second book and I will definitely read any other books that Alex Bell writes.

I was super exited about the this book but it didn't quite live up to my expectations. I never felt there was a climax to the story and I felt I wanted more of the world building(I felt it only scratched the surface). The scenes that were supposed to be getting me a bit closer to the edge of my seat never managed to do just that and the problems were to easily solved to my liking. I thought the characters were cleverly written but I never could connect to the story. Still things that happened in the last chapters of the book remained unsolved, but there wasn't any cliffhanger ending, so I think I need to check out the sequel, due in 2011.

I really enjoyed this book by Alex Bell. I thought the characters were carefully developed and imaginative. The main character Lex Trent was a character I loved to hate, although my opinion changed of him throughout the book. It's an easy to read book with a very creative plot, I particularly enjoyed the ending. I'd highly recommend this book very different to Jasmyn and The Ninth Circle but still brilliant.

Alex Bell has a vivid, wonderful imagination and it really comes across in her first lex trent novel. I loved the interesting scenes, weird creatures and humour throughout and look forward to reading the next one in the series.

The premise was interesting, but the main character was just too unlikeable for me, and made the whole thing kinda boring.
