9/10. Beautifully written book. Stoner’s character is perfectly real, flaws and all. Quite a bleak depiction of life. Everything is described with extreme clarity, not masked with fluffy language.

One of the first books I had heard about back in 2018 when I started getting into reading, I have had this book on my to-read list for a really long time. Lovely book, you can tell the writer really loved literature and knew his stuff. Very beautifully written, some parts feel like they are really ahead of their time. The fact that this was written in 1965 really blew my mind. It feels like in some ways it's even more relevant nowadays.

In his forty-third year William Stoner learned what others, much younger, had learned before him: that the person one loves at first is not the person one loves at last, and that love is not an end but a process through which one person attempts to know another ❤️
