It's a slow burning (especially the first half), but compelling novel. Even though I did not like Stoner, the main character, I enjoyed the university setting between 1890-1960 which is embedded in a broader social context (i.e. world wars). It was enjoyable to dive into one human life with its imperfections and effects on its environment. I was surprised how often I thought about this book in my real daily life.
