Sure, there are some beautiful moments. The death scene is wonderfully written. But I don’t know if I hate Stoner or Williams more. Stoner for the fact that he is completely devoid of empathy beyond his meager observations, and Williams for writing him so and negating any opportunity to develop a character beyond Stoner’s veil of introspection.

I find myself with a great amount of fondness for William Stoner. Though the story is simple, and sad, there is so much beauty in the quietness of an ordinary life.

This book will not be for everyone, but I really enjoyed it. It was incredibly unique to anything I've read so far. I'm glad I picked it up. I'll hold a spot in my heart for Stoner.

I very rarely finish a book and want to reread it. How remarkable to experience the life of a person who is, what many would consider, ordinary? I don't usually find classics compelling, but this has more than earned its title.

An extremely good novel, effortless to read and feels like it was effortless to write. Incredible reading experience.
