Sweet Surrender

Maya Banks

3.56 AVERAGE

This book is so full of cliches and blatant sexism. I've realized that Maya Banks loves writing stories of clueless innocent females who are scared to differ from the vanilla society they live in. Of course, a strong, dominant male comes along, violates her sense of privacy for some obviously justified reason, and shows her an entire world that she has been missing. I could not even finish this book because I was so turned off by the whole wide-eyed, innocent virgin image Faith projected. Banks writes as if BDSM is something defiling Faith, writing as if she should be embarrassed by her 'strange' and 'unnatural' kinks.

Aside from the unnecessary threesome in the last legs of the book, I thought this was okay. The threesome was hot , but a bit contrived and didnt really add anything to the story. I also felt the overall ending was a bit rushed, but otherwise I enjoyed the book. If you need a quick enjoyable read, then give this a go.

I've been putting off reading this series for awhile and it was nothing like I expected. I liked this one fine, but it was nothing spectacular. Grey and Faith together were pretty hot, but the bdsm was light. Their angsty conflict was a bit contrived and Grey didn't seem like a very capable cop. The writing was decent and curiousity about the cast of characters (especially Faith's friends and super sexy Micah) will keep me reading more books in the series.

So much better then the Burn, Fever, etc. trilogy.

+ Loved loved loved Faith. So sweet and caring but strong enough to admit that she is looking for something else in a man.
+ Loved how Maya Banks takes a dig at all the "pretend" dominant/submissive lifestyles there are. I really never looked at it that way.
+ Gray was sexy as all hell.

- Menage scene was a bit over the top, especially considering she just surrendered herself to Gray.
fast-paced

I have to say, I'm feeling a little dirty after reading this book... and I thought 50 Shades was naughty? This book is veeeery smutty but you will be rewinding the bedroom scenes I guarantee you. The romance between Faith and Grey fell flat for me though, but then again, rough sex and bondage is more the focus of this book than romance. The plot worked though, it was a good vehicle for their getting together. The book is well-written and has good pacing. What I'll remember most from this book won't be the plot or the characters, though - it will be the jaw-droppingly dirty bedroom scenes. W-O-W... You will need an extra-large fan while you read this.

One thing that annoyed me was that the heroine, Faith Malone, BLUSHES ALL THE TIME, at any mention of sex... she even has a full-body blush at one point! Why is she so embarrassed? She's no innocent virgin-she wants BDSM and three-ways for god's sake! Doesn't make sense to me.

Sweet Surrender begins when Gray's partner dies in the line of duty, and his partner's father gets Gray to go "undercover" in a different city to catch the killer. They know that he may be in contact with Faith Malone. The issue is Gray's going to spend about six months working at the security company Faith works at, but he never expected to be so drawn to her. Faith is searching for something that's she's not sure she will ever find, or even how to find. So when Gray enters the picture she thinks she's found but he seems to be pushing her away. This book was about how Gray and Faith found each other, but it was also about Faith finding what she most desired.

I must say I really really liked this book. It was beautifully written, and a very good story. I really loved all of the character's that were introduced. And of course there were awesome steamy scenes. I also loved Faith and Gray's relationship. They were perfect together even if it was a little hesitant at first. Also it was really sweet to see Faith being so nervous about everything, but determined to figure out what she wanted in a man. And Gray was awesome with helping her a long the way with patience and understanding.

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book and I think it's safe to say that it's my favorite Maya Banks that I've read to date. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I found it to be extremely cheesy at some parts. Still, really, really enjoyed it.

DNF'ed at around 50% and cant believe I made it that far...

This was my first true foray into romance, erotica and Maya Banks...boy oh boy!!! I will be reading ALL of her books!!
