“We are all someone's monster.”

4 stars. Really great first installment to the series. It was action packed and character driven and I ended up really enjoying it. I will admit that I struggled with the beginning, about the first 50-70 pages or so but once I got past there I was hooked until the very end. Everything about this worked for me from the writing, to the plot, to the setting, to the alternating chapters. This was a well put together novel.

This was my first experience with Leigh Bardugo's writing and I am so thoroughly impressed. I know that this is a spin off of her Grisha trilogy, which I haven't read but this one can definitely be read without knowledge of that series. I will say though that I struggled with the beginning of this one because I feel like the world is already so established and I had trouble keeping up but I got into it pretty quickly. Also some of the terms were a bit confusing but again, I caught on pretty quickly.

The writing was absolutely amazing and the world building was very scenic and drew me in and made me so invested in the world. I loved it and I think she did a wonderful job with it and was one of my favorite aspects of this book. Another of my favorite aspects about this book were the character's and their relationships with each other. It was so much fun watching all six characters interact with each other.

This story follows six characters and alternates chapters between five of them. I absolutely adore this cast of characters. I didn’t feel like there was a weak link in this group at all and I think they all went through really great development, especially Kaz and Matthias. I love the dynamics of this group and their conversations were hilarious and snarky. There’s also a teeny tiny bit of romance but it definitely takes a backseat to the heist and the action which I appreciated immensely.

I really don’t want to say anything else because I think going into it not knowing too much is best. I recommend this if you love a good heist story and character driven reads. I cannot wait until the next book is released and I am definitely interested in reading the Grisha trilogy because I need more of Leigh Bardugo’s writing.

I skipped as much of the florid description as I could get away with, especially when we spent pages and pages in back story when I just wanted them to get on with the heist.

My favorite book of all time. This book deserves 6/5 stars. The way I completely relate to Kaz is concerning but I'm glad I found somebody who thinks like me. The story, the characters, the plot was the most amazing thing I've ever read. I would sell soul to read this again for the first time. I could read this book an infinite amount of times and never get tired of it. The strategic caos of this whole book was perfect for me. I connected with the whole story so well and I enjoyed it.

After attempting to read this book multiple times throughout the years, I have finally completed it. I had heard about the six hoes of this story a lot and knew how beloved these characters are. When Netflix announced Shadow and Bones adaptation, I had no plans to watch it because I did not care for Shadows and Bones book. But, the early reviews of the show was good, and it supposedly also had Six of Crows characters and stories in it. So, I had to watch the show and I wanted to read the duology before watching the show.

I decided to listen to the audio book because reading had not worked. The voice actors did an amazing job except for Kaz’s voice actor who made Kaz sounds like a man in his 40s. This was my first audio book and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Six of Crows is a solid and top tier young adult book. This book deserve all the praises it has received and I wish I had read this book earlier. It was too hyped and I was not as impressed as I would have been had it read it about 2 years ago.

I enjoyed Six of Crows mostly because of the amazing characters Bardugo has written. Initially, I was more curious about the mystery presented in the 1st chapter and then about ‘the job’. As the story progressed, however, I found myself more interested in the characters and their past that led them all to the barrel. Having each chapter be a different character’s pov was a great idea and it kept me in anticipation about whose pov would be next. Bardugo incorporates the backstories of all the characters at different parts of the story and it further helped create an atmosphere of intrigue. Whose backstory is coming next? How did this character get from being that to this? What else happened? Now that we know the past, how does it relate to the plot right now?

I liked character driven plot more lots of character depth, growth and well written arcs. Six of Crows did that for me. But, it also had a really good plot with surprising amount of world building. There is mystery, thrill, drama, comedic moment, fantastical elements and storylines that have parallels to the real world. I think most people can enjoy this book unless they have an aversion to all things fantasy.
