 I didn’t realize a book could be this perfect. I mean… exquisitely detailed worldbuilding, an ensemble of characters that are so real and complex, and yet the story itself remains quick-paced and compelling? You would think it’s impossible, but Six of Crows proves that the impossible can be done (both in the actions of the characters, and the sheer perfection of the book itself). 

This was a reread, but honestly I read it so long ago, and when I was still fairly young (I think I was fifteen?), and I don’t think I fully grasped how excellent it was, how incredibly the story was executed. Also the banter? I remembered much of it — or at least, I remembered it being present in the story. But I forgot how smoothly and naturally it comes across, even in life-or-death situations. In most other books, it would feel corny and out of place. 

I don’t remember much about Crooked Kingdom, but I have set my expectations high. I know many people consider it better than Six of Crows itself. I don’t know if there are many books that can top what I just read. 

The TV show is what inspired me to go reread this book — this is a sign for everyone to go watch it! It really is amazing, and even though it differs from the books (quite dramatically at times) the characters are so true to what they’re like in the books that it makes it all worth it. 

Anyway, that was fun and impromptu. Read this book. Watch the show. Read the other Grishaverse series’. Now, please.
