Dr. Gawande offers a very humble approach to medicine and I deeply appreciate it about his writing. I had several gut-checks while reading of what would I have done and why, and for that alone this book was a fantastic read. A must-read for anyone wanting to be a doctor/health hare provider or someone who wants to know what that profession would be like.

A perfect mix between the science and the social.

Perfect.

It was an amazing book, Gawande writes very good, I enjoyed it so much.

Interesting and quick to read.

A book by a surgical resident about the ins and outs of being a doctor. Dr. Gawande gives an honest and straight forward telling of the complex challenges and decisions doctors face. He uses stories from his own experience and even speaks of later revisiting patients to check how they are doing well after the surgery he was involved in has ended.
If you know someone interested in a career in medicine or just curious if they COULD have had such a career, the stories in this book will help them know for sure.

Great book. It sagged a bit near the middle (the chapters on blushing and gastric bypass were, in my opinion, the weakest of the bunch). The rest was pretty damn riveting. And I found the section on nausea and vomiting fascinating!

Fascinating, moving and a little scary!

I love the way Dr. Gawande writes. He tells stories about real situations with empathy and respect for the doctors and patients. Really well-written, engaging and powerful.

I don't normally read non-fiction, but I liked this book. It had some thought provoking ideas/questions about health care and since I'm married to a surgeon, it had some interesting insight into the inner workings of surgery, most of which I'm grateful my husband leaves at work.
