This book was creepy as hell! Possession horror is one of my favorite sub genres and this novel is definitely at the top of my favorites list.
.
This story takes place in the 90's, which is a decade near and dear to my heart. I was an adolescent during that time and this book definitely gave me nostalgia. I found the family to be really likeable and I was really invested in their journey of moving to the country and fixing up their new house.
.
Roberts is really good at giving you a sense of dread, while not giving anything away. The imagery he creates during the 'jump scare' parts is terrifying! I couldn't put this book down! And that ending!? All in all, I enjoyed this book immensely and I highly recommend reading it if you like possession horror.

Normally possession and exorcism stories simply don’t get me all that excited. I appreciate the classics, sure, but to me there’s hardly any ever real deviation from the basic plot
This book however, gripped me to a crazy degree. I also rarely get to have books play out in my mind like a movie, yet nicks writing did just that.
The book was genuinely creepy at times and I actually became worried for the characters. If this does get made into a movie, some of the creepiest scenes I imagine will translate amazingly to film

Wow, this one was intense. I love the way it subverts the typical tropes you get in possession narratives. You almost always get one person (usually the dad) who insists there's a "reasonable explanation" for everything until it's too late. Not here. And I did not see the twist coming, which is rare.
