What did I just read?
I’m not sure I’ve ever read a book like this before and this didn’t my first foray into monster romance. I’m intrigued and invested at this point so I’m going to read the rest of the series at least to get answers. Not sure I like any of the characters aside from the monsters and Roxy. Time will tell.

Phew! That was intense
Hmmm...what does it mean that I'd love to be in Lexie's shoes??? That this book was awesome and you'll be panting and fanning yourself by the end. The ending was unexpected and I'm going to need book 2 soon please.

Did I read this within a few hours of having it delivered to my Kindle? Definitely. It did not disappoint. Per the author note in the beginning, you might think that you’re getting bangxiety but you aren’t. The author actually gives us a story, background, and world building… And then what I’m sure you wanted. Worth it.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this book had an actual plot with some actual romance and there were even some twists and turns. So not only is there the appeal of the other stuff but the storyline is really interesting as well. The author created an intricate world with conflicts and drama that has you wanting to know more. I definitely would like to learn more. There are also some events that I would like to know the results of, especially with the ending and the cliffhanger.
For those of you sleeping on this book, I would highly recommend it and I’m sure you’ll want some monsters under your bed as well.

When I initially came across this book I thought that the premise sounded really fun. I mean, a woman who falls in love with her childhood bogeymen? Unfortunately Monsters Under My Bed just didn’t follow through with its own set up, so it came off as disjointed.
The beginning shows Alexis as a woman haunted by memories of childhood monsters. To the point where she was so terrified of them that she was institutionalized as a teenager, and upon release moved from the USA to Australia in order to avoid said monsters finding her. However, with her father’s failing health she agrees to return home and confront her fears after a 15 year absence.
My issue with all of this is that the narrative does feature quite a few flashbacks, but in those flashbacks Alexis’ relationships with her bogeymen are pretty friendly. Like she would get home and tell them about her day. Despite this, she tells her best friend that she can’t sleep and these monsters are terrorizing her—girl, when? What Alexis claims is almost completely at odds with all the interactions actually shown. The discrepancy in her behavior to what the reader sees occurring between her and the monsters just made no sense and it was incredibly distracting. To the point where the beginning of the novel, with Alexis being afraid and avoiding going home, felt like a completely different book to when she actually returns and the reader is bombarded with flashbacks of her life before she left.
In the end I can’t see myself recommending this book, but if you’re looking for a reverse harem monster romance, I have two suggestions. For feel-good fun, A Lady of Rooksgrave Manor by Katheryn Moon; for dramatic, Broken Beasts of Beauty by Loxley Savage, but definitely check the TWs.

I didn't hate the book, first and foremost, but I feel like there was a lot of places where I wanted MORE from it, especially in terms of worldbuilding itself and some of the scenes explaining plot and worldbuilding. Overall, a quick, relaxing read.

When I saw this book I was so here for it! I'm digging the monster vibes that are going around the RH community right now. This book was so much more than just monster smut though - there was a solid plot throughout, but some hot AF sexy time too.
Don't expect to get to the goods too early in this story, there's a lot of groundwork and setup that MJ has to lay to make sure the reader is thoroughly entrenched in the world. The dynamics of the monster world are so interesting and I can't wait to learn more as the series goes on.
The FMC!
Let me start off by saying Alexis isn't the normal sort of FMC I go for. She's def going to be a grower as the series goes on. She has a lot of discovery to do, but by the end of book one, we start to see her shaping up. Everyone's trauma journey is different and MJ does a fantastic job at writing that (It can be frustrating for some, but what healing process isn't?)
The Guys!
Xhoshad, Nerazi, Seriq & Mark - Three monsters and a human. There's so much backstory between all of the guys woven throughout the story! They've been a part of her life for so many years but with many conflicting feelings and histories. This ain't no easy love story, but that's what's making it so good to read.
The Smut!
Read the forward and you'll know that you may get bangxiety in this one, but fear not, you'll get the goods by the end of it! Oh boy, do you get the monster smut.

Love this book!
It’s so different than anything else i have read. I love that they are Actual monsters that have inhuman body parts and love and posses in a way that humans just don’t.
I’m crossing my fingers for Mark (that ending was unexpected!) being able to step up and help save her. Or Alexis saving herself.

I see why the people are obsessed with monster romance. This was intense and i freaking loved it. The graphics alone were pure sin! I can’t wait to read more!

Monsters Under My Bed by M.J. Marstens is a monster romance. This is the first book in the Bogeymen trilogy.
This is the first book of M.J.'s that I have read and it won't be my last. I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed getting Alexis, Mark, Xhoshad, Nerazi, and Seriq's points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
The book ends on a great cliffhanger that left me begging for more. I can't wait to dive into the next book Monsters In My Bed.
I would recommend this book if you like monster romances, dark romances, or erotic romances.
