Great book, even better than the first. I love this world and with each new discovery, it has quickly become one of my favorites. AND THE ENDING! On to the Exile!!!!!

I feel absolutely worn out for these characters but this was so, so good. That ending?! 🤯

One of the things I love about these books is the way the author weaves all of the storylines together. There are quite a few going on but at no point did it feel too much or at all confusing. Each storyline is perfectly paced and gives just enough each time to keep you riveted and wanting to get back to see what's next for them.

I loved how Ella's storyline took a massive turn and I'm excited to see how she plays a part in the overall plot. I also need to find out more about Rist and Dann! I hope we revisit them more in book 3.

I could go on and on in this review  but it's safe to say I loved everything about this and I'm dying to find out more!

Also, Mr Cahill, can we have no more characters with D names please? We have enough with Dann, Dahlen, Daymon and Dayne!! 😂

I am hooked. I want to know where this is going. I'm invested in the characters and the plot. With the exception of the sister Ella. She seems pointless and the author has her acting clueless, helpless and dumb. I hope her POV improves in the next book and he develops her more.

Reading the Exile novella next.

Of Darkness and Light is a significant improvement from the first entry in The Bound and the BrokenOf Blood and Fire. In terms of prose, plot, and character, Cahill makes marked steps in refining his craft. As he notes at the back of each of his books, "it's all up from here."

While there are definitely slow points to the book, the ending of this story crosses even the heights set by Cahill's fantastic novella, The Fall. The battles that Cahill constructs feel unfilmably glorious and the mysteries he has now established in his world
from the relationship between the Empire and the traitor god to the details of the lands beyond Epheria to the ties between the Knights of the Archyon and users of Blood magic
are mesmerizing. The story feels like it extends much beyond our main cast of characters, and although it can be frustrating that certain arcs don't reach a crescendo in this book, Cahill has established a massive world that I am deeply invested in.
