This book was so fun, a page turner if there ever was one. Engaging and fascinating all the way through. I loved the setting and time period at the height of spiritualism at the time, the characters, the mystery of the society. Haven't read Penner's previous novel but will absolutely add it to my list of to-reads. I mean, this was just a blast to read.

Very well done. I loved The Lost Apothecary so much and I was nervous this wouldn't add up. I really feel it held its own and there were definitely surprises in the end for me which is rare!

I read The Lost Apothecary first. The look of the cover, the genre and setting: I'm a bit of a sucker for it. Pleasant read before bed. Magic realism, the supernatural, the emotions, the queer. Quite lovely.
A little unsubtle on the criticism, but considering how hard of hearing the world can be, no surprise.
