This was a bookclub pick, and I really liked it!

It's a simple story, but well-written and has a few twists and turns. I didn't expect. I had to read this quickly as I borrowed it from the library and couldn't renew it, and found that the further along I got, the more exciting the story became, and the faster I read.

We'd read The Lost Apothecary as a bookclub pick a few years ago, and my overall impression was that it was just okay. This is Penner's second novel and I think it's a much better book.

I recommend this to anyone looking for a quick read who enjoys magical realism.
