Picture book for elementary. Cute story introducing Julia Child learning French cooking in Paris.

Beautiful, evocative pencil/watercolor illustrations that perfectly convey the intimate relationships between Julia Child, husband Paul, and "perhaps the luckiest cat in all of Paris": Minette.

An introduction to the life of Julia Child, told through the eyes of her cat, Minette. As the end matter will tell you, all of the dialogue in the book is taken from Julia's writing.

It was the illustrations that drew me to this book, but I did enjoy the story as well. The biographical summary of Julia Child's life in the back of the book was appreciated. I especially liked how the author was very clear about what was fictionalized and what was not in the book. That is often hard to come by in partly biographical picture books.

This reminded me a lot of [bc:Bambino and Mr. Twain|12469449|Bambino and Mr. Twain|Priscilla Maltbie|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1327631225s/12469449.jpg|17453478] [b:Bambino and Mr. Twain|12469449|Bambino and Mr. Twain|Priscilla Maltbie|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1327631225s/12469449.jpg|17453478], which was just as sweet. There should be a special genre of "Getting to know historical figures through their pets." I love the illustrations!

Surprisingly cute and not as much text as I had expected from a picture book grounded in real facts.
