i felt like i was investigating the case into “Jerrod Williams” with them— and although this was definitely a page turner, i felt like it did drag in some places. i also found their personalities to be a bit… dry. all that aside, i loved this book. more of a suspenseful crime romance than a thriller.

There are a few types of characters I generally avoid in my romance reads, and anyone that is associated with law enforcement is one of those types of characters. This year, I've really gotten into K.C. Mills and her stories. I found this one through my library and knew that romantic suspense could work with her writing and I really wanted to give it a go.

Surprising me more than anyone, I actually really enjoyed this. A detective and psychologist that used to work with law enforcement end up teaming up and growing romantically closer in the process. There were twists, turns, and a mystery that needed solving. I will continue to read K.C. Mills and, despite the success of this book, will continue to avoid law enforcement in my romance reads.

I just want to start off by saying that this book didn't feel much like a thriller to me. It felt more like a light suspense story with a side of romantic development between the two main characters. I'm very disappointed that there was less focus on the crime in the story. Instead, we had Detective Nathanial Davis running around with no actual evidence against Cassie, the other main character. There was no real detective work done during the reading. It also felt like there was too much focus on Davis being a lone wolf who couldn't be bothered with his co-workers, and Cassie seemed like a minor inconvenience added to move the plot along. I understand the need for background information on characters, but in "Innocent Intent," it felt like there was too much information overload that didn't necessarily move the plot forward.

Can't say that I enjoyed this as much as I wanted to, but I am looking forward to seeing where this author goes on this new journey.

i wish i could believe in davis and cassidy’s romance, because though it’s a subplot, there wasn’t a lot of tension—to me—in the story. there were some parts of the suspense that could’ve also translated well, but it fell flat.
