I read this directly after I finished The Tokyo Zodiac Murders so perhaps I’ve set my expectations too high.
It’s a simple case, but the way of killing is perhaps a bit too bizarre for me to wrap my head around. It’s certainly makes for an interesting read.
However, I found the pace too slow, especially after the fast-paced Zodiac Murders, and some parts aren’t really necessary.
The lack of our favourite detective and his sidekick is also disappointing. I’ve been waiting for them for half of the book and there were times when I wanted to skim through the book until their appearance.
It’s interesting, though, to note the difference between Kiyoshi on this case and the Zodiac. We know he has his highs and lows and careless of others’ opinions, but his carelessness and arrogance reached a higher level as he pranced around and annoyed everyone the moment he arrived in this story.
Kazumi, on the other hand, disappears among the rest. Perhaps, because this time he’s not really the one in charge of the story.
While, this isn’t really a suspenseful and gripping one, overall the case is unique and reading it is quite an enjoyable experience.

Vibenya mirip detektif kindaichi. Kasusnya ga terlalu menegangkan, detektifnya slengekan tapi pinter. Cukup menyenangkan bacanya.
