So, I wrote a review for this when I read it but accidentally deleted a whole bunch of reviews when I was reorganizing my shelves... So I guess I just have to read them all again so I can give accurate reviews :D
I had the urge to rate this higher but only because compared to the previous it was so much better but it wasn't one of the more enjoyable of the series. There was too much descriptive recap which having some at this point can be good especially coming off a more side story book but it can be too much. Having created such a big character of the sister I expected more out of this character.
4 stars
Naked Empire is the eighth book in the epic fantasy series- Sword of Truth- by Terry Goodkind. I was rearranging my bookshelves recently when I came across this series hidden behind some newer purchases. I haven’t read them for quite some time and remember really loving the series when I first read it. So I thought I would re-read the books- and the best thing about that was I got to read them pretty much back to back- no waiting in-between for new books to release. I have enjoyed the series, almost as much as I did the first time- although there were a few minor issues I noticed this time around that I didn’t the first time I read them. These issues didn’t really detract from my enjoyment of the story- but proved that our tastes and expectations do evolve over time.
Richard has been poisoned and the antidote comes at a high price. This story has intensity, fantasy, adventure, action, drama, magic, danger, suspense, good vs evil, and so much more. I found it to be original and well written- with wonderful world building- Mr. Goodkind creativity resulted in a truly fascinating world, where every detail came to life before my eyes.
A great adventure that I am happy to have rediscovered again.
Thank you, Mr. Goodkind.

The 8th book of the series touches on the peoples who are "pristinely ungifted", which means magic doesn't affect them and they can't see magic. The Order is still rampaging through the Midlands and are now using the "ungifted" to accomplish tasks or get through magical wards.
I felt this book in the series was one big review. I was mostly skimming the paragraphs, because the descriptions and dialog were becoming mundane. I don't think an entire 2-3 pages need to be used every time Kahlan uses her power (which is kind of funny since that's what they did in the TV series). Or I just want to finally finish this series. I'm getting a little tired of the preachy tone, too. Thank goodness Goodkind has good character development. Cara and Zedd are still my favorite characters. I got excited at one point because Chase and Rachel return to the story.

I mean, I can't stop reading the series now! The Midlands is still in turmoil and Jagang is alive. R and K have a lot to do... Starting book 9 tonight.
I have never read a book by Terry Goodkind until this one. I realize it's not the first of this series by him, however, it reads really well as a stand alone. I also found the ideas and thoughts presented in it were worth taking note of. I will read more of his books in the future.

I can't figure why this seems to be the most hated book in this series. As far as I'm concerned, it is by far the best one - at least thus far.
The first 100 or so pages is mind-numbingly boring. Toward the end it becomes pretty silly and the end is just too precious. But in between all that I could not put it down. It was strange finding myself so engrossed in one of these books.
Sure, it suffers from that infamous recap fever of Goodkind's and there are Richard's seemingly endless monologues which, even if you tend to agree with him, come off a little heavy-handed if not downright boring. There is the resolution that is thinly veiled deus ex machina.
Even so, if you find that you don't quite love this series as much as others seem to, you may be surprised with this one. I was. Finally.

Another great tale from Goodkind. Gripping, twisting plot. Great read.
Liked this one OK, but Pillars and Naked Empire are a bit of a weak spot in this series.
