I kind of inhaled this, so I think that requires 5 stars. I’m trying to be more generous with 5 stars.

This is fantastic literary sci fi.

Chiang masterfully blends hard science fiction tropes like time travel and parallel universes with lofty philosophical ideas like fatalism, free will, and the power of language. Some stories in the collection are so good they are worth a read and then an immediate re read.

Another great collection of short stories, although I liked Stories of Your Life slightly more. I can’t get over Ted Chiang’s writing - I finish a story and find myself thinking about it for 30 mins until finally I turn to Reddit/Goodreads to see what other people think. His stories are so original, so relevant to the world today - I would recommend them to anyone, even those who aren’t regular sci-fi readers.
