This is definitely a series to be read and enjoyed in order. With the long awaited appearance of Josie's father, the relationship drama intensifies while the action never ceases. Unfortunately, that means that the bomb dad drops in the beginning doesn't get addressed to the midway point which was a nagging loose-end.

Other than that one irritation, the author does a great job of keeping the momentum going while continuing to develop the characters and their relationships consistent with their established personalities. Keller has definitely joined the pantheon of my favored book-boyfriends. In this installment he is in a rough place and it goes a bit sideways. His acceptance of responsibility and dedication to fixing what he can makes him more likable and appealing than when he's all 'super boyfriend.' Josie, in turn, is learning to control her knee-jerk hostility to anything that impacts (or appears to impact) her autonomy.

Readers who like the Kate Daniels series and the Mercy Thompson series should definitely check out Josie Hawk!

There is a lot going on in this book and I don't want to spoil it but Josie keeps kicking butt and taking names, Keller keeps helping and putting off his sexy vibes, the rest of the GATE team is represented well - and continues to provide comic relief. There are also some surprises in this one for those who have read the earlier books in the series.

If you like urban fantasy with strong female characters, funny and solid secondary characters, and lots of action this is definitely a series you won't want to miss.
