The woman this book was based on - Virginia Hall - is incredible.  She is a largely uncredited WW2 operative who saved so many lives and hasted the end of the war with her spy work, recruiting and ingenuity while based in France.  I could not be more impressed with her accomplishments and perseverance (especially as a woman at that time), but the book wasn’t as strong for me.  Parts of it drug along and parts of it skimmed too quickly over important details so the pace felt off and like it never really got to an exciting climax.  Still worth reading, but because the narrative wasn’t as strong I had a hard time distinguishing Virginia’s heroics from others during the war.

An excellent book about a fascinating woman who proved that women are capable of doing anything men can, and in some cases, even better. Some parts of the book are particularly unsettling, especially given how they parallel current events—this is especially evident in the first chapter. While the content is engaging, I did wish it read a bit more like the narrative promised in the blurb. However, this could be due to the audiobook narrator, whose delivery felt somewhat robotic at times.

I probably would have never read this book if it wasn't for my book club but I'm so glad I did. Virginia Hall was one amazing woman and Sonia Purnell did a wonderful job pulling her story together.
