One of my favorites. A great adventure across India that dives deep into culture, religion and the people that make India so special.
3.5.
I'm not a big fan of non-fiction books but something about this one kept me interested. Well written and interesting!

I remember picking this book up from the thrift store because it looked kind of funny. Unfortunately, what passes for humor in this book is a mix of crudeness, superiority, entitlement, and straight up racism. I was too disgusted by what I had read to make it beyond the first full chapter.

I love India and reading anything about it. I love how she explored the spiritual side of its people.
An autobiografic story about an Australian woman living in India and looking for faith and illumination. Funny and well written short chapters about different experiences she makes while adjusting to a country that is very strange to "western" people. In the end she realizes she doesn't have to follow one direction but can believe in "something bigger than she can touch".
I liked the detailed description of India and indian lifestyle. You can almost feel the heat and overload of culture she experiences. Slowly through out each chapter she adjusts more and more until she is surprised by reactions of friends visiting her to India or about her husband's feelings towards India. He is traveling a lot abroad as a reporter and leaving her alone to discover.
The book highlights a lot of things foreigners find funny, weird or strange. In the end I think India is absolutely worth getting to know it but one must have a lot of energy to do so.

Like a Peace Corps tour in a book. I normally hate travel books but this was exceptionally well written and informative about a country and numerous religions that are all so new to me. Having Indian friends, it was nice to be able to get to know a bit about their country. Highly recommend.
After the first chapter, I decided I really didn't want to read a book about how bad India was, especially as told in the author's vulgar style.
Interesting read, lots of observations on life in India
