This was a FANTASTIC conclusion to the trilogy. The Queen of Nothing wraps up all the threads from the trilogy in a...mostly neat box. Jude was the last to finish her character arc, but it is a satisfying and deserved conclusion for the High Queen of Elfhame. Cardan's character growth was excellent and makes him truly deserving of Jude. This is the truest enemies to lovers I have ever read. I would consider making a faerie bargain just to erase my memories of this series so I could read it all over again.

Do yourself a favor and read the incredibly short Cardan's Letters to Jude in Exile after this. It is short and sweet, but demonstrates Cardan's sincerity. I love Jude and Cardan so much!

Romantic tension between characters is masterfully done and completed in this series. Some of the plot points felt underserved by the fast pacing, but the plot was still very compelling.

Things I liked:
  • fae are more than just elevated hot versions of human, they're mostly vicious
  • for some reason I did like how the specks of romance were done with Carden & Jude, but only in the 2nd and 3rd book
  • Heather's struggles (I didn't like them, but they seamed realistic)
  • the politics of it, I think this is the main selling point
  • the complexity of Jude as a character (I love that I rooted for her and also hated her sometimes)
  • the mixture with contemporary world, especially at the end, the ending in general I enjoyed

Things I disliked:
  • the
    serpent thing
made no sense to me but that's probably unpopular opinion
  • i despise the bullying trope, nearly DNFd Cruel prince because of it and we never would have gotten here (I only continued because the books are quite short and I had audiobooks so I did other things as I listened)
  • Tairyn or however you spell that, just her character in general, but what bothered me more is that she was apparently so stupid she didn't think when people asked something of her and just did it, but also
randomly snapped at Locke (who deserved to die imo)
  • the loophole with Carden's exile, I'm sorry but no, he laughed with the rest of them

It's very YA and it should be marketed as such. There is politics and romance, but the latter is very secondary. It's okay if you know what to expect and if you get through the 1st book it gets better imo. Wouldn't say it lives up to the hype, but I don't regret reading it. Also this is random, but I love the covers of the 2nd and 3rd book.

1.5/5

I'm sad that it's over! I'll miss Elfhame. What a fantastic ending it was. I was afraid this book wouldn't have a good ending. However, it's action-packed, super engaging, and fast-paced. I love how this book explored politics, manipulation, plots, and tactics.

It's incredible how the characters have grown. They've all improved exponentially, especially Cardan. If, after reading the first book, you had told me it would end the way it did, I wouldn't have believed you. The progress and direction the plot takes are phenomenal. Holly Black is the queen of the fairies, without a doubt.

Cardan and Jude are the best enemies-to-lovers I've ever read. I love how slow-burn this relationship is. The tension and longing between these two characters is absolute gold!!! The build-up of their love and trust is beautiful. Despite their mutual hatred and frequent betrayals, love still blossoms between them.

The relationship between Jude and Madoc is one of the strongest points of this entire series. I love how complex, chaotic, and toxic their relationship is. From the beginning, Jude grapples with her conflicted emotions of hate and love toward her father figure and the murderer of her parents.

Jude's confrontation with her father is a scene that clearly illustrates the dynamic between these characters. The scene where Madoc's three daughters rebel against him reflects the paradoxical nature of the relationship, where hatred mingles with love between father and daughters.

I'm so glad Taryn was able to mend her relationship with her sister. Locke hurt them badly when he manipulated them both, and Madoc's actions also contributed to the twins' breakup. Taryn proved to be just as strong as Jude. Seeing them work together and support each other warmed my heart.

I look forward to returning to this world soon with Holly Black's new series, but for now, I'm simply an emotional wreck, and I have to deal with it!

The Queen of Nothing
By Holly Black
5 Stars

Holly Black has woven another fantastic tale in the Land of Elfhame! If you liked the first two books in this series, then I have no doubt that you will like this one as well.

Black adds some new characters to the mix as well as some new magic to the story. She doesn’t give you a chance to get bored with this action packed novel.

I can’t wait to read the next Elfhame book!! This series has been so fun and adventurous.
