Rating upped to 4 stars. Only re-read this one, no interest in continuing this series (though I may skip ahead to see how it all ended as I stopped reading while it was still on-going). The art is so-so, at times it wasn't that pretty, but at other times it was just gorgeous (swoony boys!). I love the idea the there are 12 (13) members that are like the zodiac and can transform in said animal they are aligned with. Plus Toohru is just adorbs and supertough (really, how can I not like a girl who just goes off to live in a tent and who will just hug a boy when he wants to fight his rival). :P
I do think it is silly that Kyou can never win. Really, that dude is so strong, but he can't beat Yuki at all.

Don’t actually look at my rating for this. It just wasn’t for me, I don’t think it was objectively bad and the story wasn’t bad, I just am not really into manga apparently. Thank you to BookRiot’s Read Harder challenge for making me branch out and try this, maybe I’ll try another manga but I will say this was a pretty okay one if I had to read a manga
lighthearted

It's typical, cookie-cutter manga art, but to hell with it - it's a cute, fun story and it's easy to see why it's so loved.

This was the first manga I ever read and I still read the entire seres every now and then because I love it so much. Tohru is a bit naive and not terribly smart, but she is really sweet and easy to love. The other characters slowly warm to you (some faster then others) the more you see of them and as the series progress you also get to see the side of them they don't really show in public, making for realistic and intresting characters.

I personally love the story, it centers around the Shoma familly, a familly with a secret. [mild spoiler] Certain members can turn into the animals of the zodiac when hugged by someone from the opposite sex or when extremely fatigued.[end mild spoiler] When Tohru comes to live with some members of this family, she discovers the secret and promisses to never to tell anyone. The series go on about Tohru's life with the Sohma's and how they influence eachother.
What I love about the story is that, most of the time it's all fun and games, it's very happy and upbeat, but as the story progresses, darker and more serious undertones seep in. It can get quite emotional though it usually leaves you with a smile on your face.

If you love a warm story with fun and lovable charaters and a bit of mystery and sadness in it (which is btw beautifully drawn), this is the manga for you!

I have so many questions and so little time.

3.5

The first manga I ever read in 6th grade. This will always have a special place in my heart.

I absolutely hated this book when I read it in high school. The concept was stupid. The plot was cheap. The problems were immature. The art was....crappy at best. And how the hell did it get so popular when the book is crappy? I don't understand. I will not be reading more.
