August or Auggie, was born with a facial deformity and had been homeschooled all his life, that is, until now. Auggie’s parents have told him that he’ll be going to a mainstream school. Auggie’s had his fair share of hardship already and it’s safe to say he’s nervous to join Beecher Prep, but he knows he’s just... read the full spoiler-free review here: https://www.amysbookshelf.co.uk/2022/11/wonder-book-review/
This book's central precept is, "When given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind." And I don't agree. So why 5 stars?
I picked up the book with the intention of reading it with its target audience, namely middle schoolers, in mind. As with any great book, it transcends its audience, and I think the power of this book is that its messages, which are more subtle and varied than that stated above, float to you wherever (and whoever) you are.
Yet, I come back to the middle schoolers who I've seen reading this book, and when I think of the messaging, I think of where they are in life and where that seemingly simplistic message leads if acted upon with thought, intention, and sincerity: to empathy, and the ability to see and understand differing motives and perspectives. This book's central tenet serves as the primer for those skills to stick, and to me, that is the true wisdom and beauty contained here.

Should be required reading for kids, a perfect, non-preachy story about accepting people’s differences and learning to empathise, a lesson that all kids must learn but is hard for even some adults to understand. Heartwarming story with characters that, as cliched as it sounds, will stay with you long after you finish
AMAZING AND EMOTIONAL, GREAT FOR YOUNG READERS!
Fantastically written book. Plenty of points of view, honest thoughts, and true reactions. This book teaches us that even though we might look different, we are still human. Kindness goes a long way.
Such a WONDER-ful read! (I had to, sorry :P)
I loved everything about this book, the extremely well written story, the raw and realistic characters, the much needed humour, the underlying sadness and the whole premise of the book in general.
Wonder is a story about a boy, August Pullman, who was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. Wonder, begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others.
It's a feel-good book with a powerful message, and a lovely end that'll leave you in tears!

Every once in a while a little book reaches out and touches the deepest place in your heart, and makes you cry all over your Kindle at midnight. Just beautiful.
