This book made me question whether life was worth living. The fact that such a heartless, unoriginal, indulgent book exists causes me literal pain. It took me a ridiculous amount of time to read this, because of just how awful it is.

Oh, how I love this series! For me, each book seems to get better! I definitely liked Soul of the Fire far more than any of the others! What a great journey this story takes us on! I find it hard to discipline myself to read only one book in this series and not jump right in to the next one! Will get to that one soon though, got to see what happens after one hell of an ending!

Goodkind non si smentisce mai. In quest'ennesima avventura fantatrash, Richard e Kahlan devono fermare la minaccia dei Rintocchi prima che questi eliminino tutta la magia dal mondo. Voi direte: figo; peccato che quella che dovrebbe essere la trama principale (e che comunque è solo un allungare la vicenda, visto che sono tre libri che Jagang incombe con il suo Ordine Imperiale sulle Terre Centrali e ancora non è successo niente di interessante su quel fronte) sia ridotta in realtà a mera sottotrama.
E allora qual è la storia predominante di questo libro? Gli intrighi politici di Anderith, regno governato de facto dal ministro della cultura Bertrand Chanboor. Perché tutta quest'enfasi? Perché Chanboor è una parodia di Bill Clinton, leader politico che a Goodkind evidentemente non va molto a genio, mentre la moglie di Chanboor, Hildemara, è chiaramente Hillary Clinton. Tra l'altro è pure una parodia fatta col culo, perché si riduce a "Finto Bill Clinton è uno stupratore (e sai che novità, che un personaggio in un libro di Goodkind sia uno stupratore...) e Hillary è un cesso pauroso". Satira politica che neanche a Colorado Café.
Ma non funziona. Paradossalmente, infatti, poiché Goodkind è un inetto, la versione satirica di Bill Clinton riesce a essere un politico più illuminato di quell'idiota di Richard, e quindi il tutto si ritorce contro a Goodkind e all'idea di utilizzare dei romanzi mascherati da fantasy per fare predicozzi politico-filosofici. Un ennesimo epic fail.
Tutto sommato, romanzo perfettamente evitabile, con poche situazioni degne di nota (l'unica gemma fantatrash è l'Evil Chicken of Doom dei primi capitoli) e soprattutto molto ma molto lento.
Il prossimo volume, il sesto, è da molti considerato "l'inizio della fine", perché è quello in cui Goodkind getta la maschera e si rivela per quello che è: un telepredicatore dell'oggettivismo randiano. Sarà una gioia stroncarlo, perché, pur non avendo (quasi) nulla contro la filosofia della Rand, non sopporto gli autori che ti martellano il cervello con messaggi morali a discapito della trama. Ma questa è un'altra storia per un altro giorno.

Did not enjoy the lack of Cara especially in the last half of the book. This one was alright, not as great as the other books that I've read so far. The people in Anderith totally got what they deserved including Dalton.
Not sure if I want to continue reading the rest of the series as I've read that the quality goes downhill from here.

Well that was definitely a book that I spent my time reading
Like for all their faults the last couple books in the series have had exciting bits. This one had about 50 pages of intrigue throughout the whole thing. Like I can’t believe I spent 150 pages slogging through the introduction and build up of side characters just to have them be killed/told to run off to save themselves. I didn’t really care about the politics of Andereth so all the bits will dalton fell flat. Actually most of this book fell flat tbh. I’ll probably still pick up the next one though as I like the main cast of characters, as annoying as they can sometimes be. Zedd, Ann, and Cara are always fun.

For those who have read this, even though I think Dalton Campbell got what he deserved, I still felt pity for him.

Did not disappoint but was slower than the rest, cant wait to see what else is in store for Richard and Kahlan.
