This is my probably my favorite Shadowhunter book so far. I loved the trip to Faery, loved the drama with the Cohort and I'm just really hoping that whatever comeuppance they get is satisfying as hell. I liked reading about Kit and Ty. Julian and Emma's drama was still annoying but I'll admit I loved how they thought they'd found out a way out of it and then it all went to shit in the end. Love that Cristina is just in a faerie throuple now. Like yes, girl. Also liked the Annabel storyline, that whole thing was wild.

Personally, I hate Julian. I think he's a huge dick. I get that he does these things to protect his family but the way he jumps down Emma's throat all the time is so ridiculous. And she's so eager to forgive and forget. Like he essentially calls her a slut a few times but it's okay because she's in love with him?

Emma being such a good fighter she defeats the Riders who nobody has ever defeated before. *yawn*

I really hope I'm wrong about the uncomfortable vibes I got between Jaime and Dru because that is a ship I do not want to see happen at all.

I'm not thrilled with the handling of Diana Wrayburn's character. I don't like that her being transgender was treated like a horrible secret in book one and then when it's revealed in book two it's almost done as if for shock value. The reason it's a big secret is because the Clave will punish her for seeking medical treatment from mundanes to transition into a body that is more herself. But a warlock was the one who performed the procedure so couldn't it technically be considered not mundane treatment? Idk, it just is supremely stupid to me that Shadowhunters can't seek out other medical attention. Like Julians' mom died from cancer but that's something mundane's might've been able to treat so did she just have to suffer and die because the Shadowhunters are so backwards? I feel like this could've been done so much better. Maybe she's out in the open about being trans but she doesn't want to do the trial by sword because she used faerie magic to transition and since the cold peace is happening that would make people not want to agree with her running the institute because she's a faerie sympathizer. I know she says that she didn't want to use magic because magic is easier to undo but god dammit Cassandra Clare made the rules of this book she can change them.

I have to say that I loved Diana and Gwyn ap Nudd together. They're the only couple I'm actually invested in.

Also, that ending was WILD.

So freaking good I can't get over it

Felt really dragged out, like she had a couple ideas of ooo what if this happened r/t parameters set in previous books but then just kind of haphazardly built a story around those 3 ideas with very little plot substance and less depth to character development than previous series
