Wow. Even though I was spoiled about some of the things that happen. I did not expect it to happen that way. Huge cliffhanger, trying to keep my review spoiler free because my fiancee hasn't read it yet. Grown to really like Kit, hopefully he can use mundane history to explain why what the deerborne family want is wrong.

THIS BOOK. HOW DO I EVEN BEGIN. I think it suffices to say this book has given me a whole ton of feels. This book was a really great continuation in the entire Shadowhunter Chronicles and it makes me care even more about characters in the Dark Artifices. So much has happened to the characters after Malcolm died in Lady Midnight (maybe not). And Annabel now awoken. With the imminent threat of Julian and Emma going crazy and having warlock-like powers, we finally see possible light into the situation. We get to know even more about Kit, especially after learning him for a real short period in Lady Midnight, I don’t think I can talk about anything else without spoiling, so read it and come visit the spoiler section below!

You have to finish all the books that come before this -TMI,TID, Bane Chronicles and even Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy- or you’ll be heavily spoiled.

SPOILERY DISCUSSION

This mostly has my thoughts when I was reading the aforementioned book.

SpoilerGod damn Diego why cheat? Especially with a person like Zara who is with the cohort.

At the same time I'm happy Mark and Emma can kind of comfort each other through their fake relationship but it's hurting Cristina and Julian. Like I really like that Emma and Mark use their friendship as a means to pretend to be a couple. But seriously though when Mark won that goldfish and presented it to Emma because he said that’s what boyfriends do and I just laughed.

Jon Cartwright? As in the one from Tales of the Shadowhunter Academy? He's now a Centurion?? It was kinda sad he had to die though. Marisol is going to be devastated that she can no longer tease him about mundane things. But to die at Malcolm’s hands is even sadder.

Wait kit is blonde? It’s odder that both currently living Herondales have the same trait of blond hair and blue eyes when the Herondale line doesn’t have the genetic makeup for this.

'We'll have to get our energy the old-fashioned way' Mark looked puzzled 'drugs?' HAHA WOW MARK HAHA.

Wait who is Kit's mother? Could she be a Downworlder? I mean Kit's Dad would have been unprotected (shadowhunter birth spells wise). Or could kit have been stolen and Johnny Rook not have been a shadowhunter in the first place?

What? The knight Emma was fighting against was her father?? No wonder the King chose her. Wow, this just turned out to be just a deception.

Well well, Malcolm is back and looks like he is in pieces.

Oh no Arthur why why did you give yourself up to Malcolm? This sacrifice has definitely improved my view of Arthur Blackthorn as a person who is willing to do at least this for his family. But the book and Malcolm downplayed it to being an act of madness.

Annabel straight up murdered Malcolm the moment she awoke?? That got me real shook and confused.

I thought the Queen went missing after the dark war? Oh no, she's probably lying about breaking the parabatai curse. Wow.. I mean this plan by the seelie Queen could work but it could also go wrong in many ways. I cannot believe that Julian is actually considering breaking all Parabatai bonds just for the sake of him and Emma, first of all, how selfish! Secondly, it would break what is unique with shadowhunters.

JB+LH? Jesse Blackthorn and Lucie Herondale?

When Kit said some idiot wrote Will H in the books HAHA Little does he know that was his distant relative.

When Jia asked for Diana to trial by the Mortal Sword to discredit Zara I was like why not let Zara tell the truth instead? During the actual trial I thought the same thing: WHY DID NO ONE ASK ZARA TO TESTIFY ASDFGHJKL. The cohort complains that the Mortal Sword may not work on Annabel but they do not ask Zara to?

'Who would want movies or TV when there are books' HAHA Cassie are you dissing the TMI adaptations

At first I thought, oh no Jamie is gonna be a bad influence on Dru, but turns out it wasn’t too bad?

That talk abt family mottoes though.. Lightened 'we mean well', and then Emma suggests chiselled but angsty for Herondale and Julian said if you don't know what your last bane is its probably a Herondale. Then Emma suggested Carstairs is We have a sword? Blunt instruments are for losers? And Julian suggested When in doubt, start a war for Morgernstern whereas Emma suggested Has even one of us been any good like ever seriously

“Todo el mundo tiene miedo de algo. Tememos a las cosas porque las valoramos. Tememos perder a las personas porque las amamos. Tememos morir porque valoramos estar vivos. No desees no tener miedo a nada. Todo lo que eso significaría es que no sentiste nada.

En este momento solo puedo pensar, ¿Porque? ¿Qué necesidad habia Cassandra?

I'm really not sure how I feel about Cassandra Clare's books. I always have a point in the middle when it becomes a drag and I feel inclined to read them. However I always love certain characters (Mark, Kieran, Ty and Kit in this series) but as a whole they always seem to end up being disappointing for me. I got annoyed really easily with Emma and Julian's relationship and their whole angst thing about it especially as it seemed to take up the majority of their PoVs. I also felt like this was very much a middle book (if that makes sense) and that a majority of the plot was setting up for the conclusion. I also felt slightly cheated by the ending as I personally feel like it could have done with at least one more chapter to fully tie everything up. I feel like it ended suddenly and like the whole point of the ending was for shock value. I will probably finish this series but I'm not sure yet if I'll read any other series of hers after this one.

I absolutely love this book with my whole heart, it is an amazing piece of fiction then end made me spill tears that I haven't for a very long time. I have never read a book quite as good as this one. The characters the plot EVERHTHING WAS MARVELOUS.

I feel like my heart has been ripped out of my chest. The suspense in this book was done so amazingly well and I feel like all the storylines weaved together seamlessly.

I'm seeing the holy triad and if we don't see this out I may die. And lots of other things happen too including some that I can't process let alone talk about. And I am genuinely concerned for how much I like seeing Julian having absolutely no qualms about burning down the world.

After the sub par Lady Midnight, Lord of Shadows is almost back to form for Cassandra Clare. Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn are still trudging through the clunkiest, lamest lie-for-plot-device in recent memory, but aside from that, Lord of Shadows really does pick up speed. Emma and Julian alternate between great and facepalmingly annoying, but the other characters make Lord of Shadows stand up over Lady Midnight, along with the fast-paced, many-faceted story line. Old favorite characters pop up, like Jace and Clary, but this story doesn’t need them. (They’re almost distracting.) It’s good enough to roll into Book 3 on its own.

..... I don't wanna talk about it. It was too painful 😭 five stars okay. five freaking stars. now leave me alone I'm gonna go cry in a corner.
