Ugh! I can’t life right now. I don’t know how to handle the end of this book, it’s beyond amazing. Though my heart and soul have been crushed and I am beyond myself, I am also delighted on how well this book was written and everything fell into place. Do yourself a favor and read this book NOW.
one of the strongest cassandra clare books.

omg omg omg this book was amazing, and if you haven't read it plz don't keep reading this book blurb
alright I have wanted to read this book for the longest time and I finally did. I read the book in less than 24 hours!! that's how much I wanted to read this book. I could talk forever about this book bc there is so much to talk about but to preserve time here's the big takeaways!
characters and plot
-kit and ty. my babies. in lady midnight, I knew I was going to like these two, and after finishing this book, they are my loves. ty just grew up so much in this book. with finding out he has autism and how he doesn't understand sarcasm and they have to give him hints, to his idea of writing to Annabel to gets in contact with her. ty is a smart and crafty character, and I loved getting to see all the ways he uses his knowledge to help the blackthorns. also whenever he asked kit to hold him>>> what a beautiful scene. whenever bridget let him take a Sherlock holmes book I died bc there was this thing where ty was Sherlock and kit was Watson, and I loved it.
kit was definitely my favorite character in the book. now he was a little bitter and moody, but he still managed to grow up throughout this book and start to embrace himself. especially near the end of the book when they were battling the riders and he finally said he was Christopher Herondale and he was a shadowhunter bc throughout the entire book he was trying to plan his escape and stole things, so he could leave and hearing him finally embrace his destiny was a beautiful moment.
emma and julian. now these two were kind of frustrating to read from since they kept denying their feelings for one another until the sweet cottage scene. I really do like both of them, and the positive influence they have on each other's lives. however, I do think Julian can come off a little toxic and might make harmful decisions in the future especially whenever he threatened to kill the unseelie king's son and said he didn't have "anything to lose" and how if robert lightwood didn't agree they could take other measures hmm. the important thing to take away from these two is the parabatai bond. when they went to the faerie land and the person told Julian that he would find a way to break the parabatai bond... ughh. then, julian finds out if he breaks his, then, they would break all the parabatai BONDS!! what in the world! this means clary/simon, jace/alec etc would be donezos! the idea that this could happen freaks me out. again, this will definitely be brought up in the next book and especially with their plan failing bc of current events, I need to know what happens.
cristina/mark/ kiernan. their relationship confuses me. and they give me threesome vibes especially since kiernan has shown interest in cristina. their storyline interests me and I personally ship cristina and mark together. their dance scene in the fae land and kiss were iconic. kiernan really developed in this book for the better bc in the last book he was clingy and selfish. this book, he decides to speak for the clave and helps others before thinking of himself.
dru. finally unto my last person I will go in analysis about. dru was someone who I was convinced might die in this book bc of her lack of a storyline in LM. however, we really started to relate to dru and how she feels different amongst the rest of the blackthorns bc she is treated like a child. I liked how she was able to make a friend in Jaime (even if I don't trust him one bit like I know he is hiding an object) and have a connection with someone outside of her family. also her getting zapped to the faerie world was crazyyyy!! I do watch polandbananasbooks and believe that the "ash" faerie was Sebastian/ seelie queen's love child. again, I would much rather see her relationship with ash than Jaime, but i'm excited to read more about her in the next book.
things to mention quickly:
gotta shoutout magnus and Alec for having a huge presence in this book bc I loved all of their funny, lines especially alec's clapback at zara and magnus walking in on emma and Julian (deja vu?). the London insitiute was a joy to read from bc I loved TID and having jessamine appear in this book by being able to communicate through kit was hilarious. I miss her.
also, we have to be scared about magnus collapsing before the council meeting, and clary dreaming about dying. i'm scared for both of them and I really do want them both ALIVE in TQIAAD!!
no paragraphs for malcolm, zara and Annabel bc malcolm raised Annabel which legit ruined everything, zara was a jerk ,and I'm terrified if her family/downworlders haters get power it's WW2 (similarities anyone). Annabel seemed nice, but I can't ignore what she did at the end (I will mention in a sec), and the fact that she might be working with the UNSEELIE KING UGGHHHHH
-rip Arthur, jon, robert and of course our ray of sunshine livvy. her dead scene was awful and although I might have seen it coming, she brought kit and ty together, had her first kiss, could have been parabatai with ty, and was amazing in every way. love u girl.
in conclusion:
this book gets a five because even though I wasn't able to talk about everything, the book really was beautifully written and a delight to read! i'm scared for the next book because it might be dark in certain parts but i'm excited to see how TDA ends.

FULL REVIEW & DISCUSSION: https://readbytiffany.wordpress.com/2018/01/13/the-dark-artifices-lord-of-shadows-book-review-discussion-reread/
In my opinion, the second books in Cassandra Clare’s series are not as strong as the first. City of Ashes was not as good as City of Bones. Clockwork Prince was not as good as Clockwork Angel. Lord of Shadows was not as good as Lady Midnight. Don’t get me wrong. ALL of Cassie’s books are great, and I would recommend everyone to read every single one of them. However, since the second books are more informational, the plotline and the pacing do not complement each other as well as the other books in her series.
One thing I absolutely love about this book is how politically and socially relevant it is.

6. Clare still killing it with the representation. Keep it up!
7. SLUTET. O.M.G.

i'm genuinely shocked at how much i liked this book... from the plot to the characters and the battles, everything was amazing?? i'm saving the 5 stars for the next book if it lives up to my expectations... special mention to my babies ty and kit, for real. specially ty. that's my son right there and i hope he appears even more in the third book.

Much better than the first one, even though I still have a bunch of complaints. But I really like the point Clare is trying to make here, and I really liked Diana’s story and most of the couples too
The first half was kind of painfully annoying, and it took me a while to get past the 30% mark. But once I hit the halfway point, the story got way better
Also getting to see so much of Magnus, Alec, their kids, Jace and Clary was so good. The best part actually.

See I Know these books won't be appropriate for the age group but I'm enjoying reading the start of them. Lol
How do I explain the fact that Cassandra Clare has managed to produce ten books, ten whole books before this, and this might as well be her magnum opus? I mean, I'm not crazy about Emma and Julian yet, but the elements of this story are woven together so perfectly, so harmoniously, that this might be her best work. This trilogy is, without a doubt, one of his most compelling work. I still have to read the last installment to proclaim it better than TID, but, holy crap. She's amazing, she's done amazingly, and these books are just... they have such high quality that I can't describe it.
Now, spoilers.
I suffer from a very rare disorder that is called "I can't stand the main characters of anything ever and I usually love the secondary characters with my soul". I suffer from it on this book since Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn are the ship that is shoved down my throat. I know, I'm supposed to ship them, I'm supposed to be obsessed with them, but they're basically the Jace and Clary of TDA. And I just don't like them as a pairing or as singular characters, period. Especially Emma. She's really unlikeable, just like, you guessed it! Freaking perfect insufferable Jace Herondale. I like her connections with other characters (her friendship with Cristina is goals) and some of her dialogue, and holy crap, Cortana is bae, but nope. I can't stand her. Julian, on the other hand, is more compelling. He's interesting. He's just so dark and full of promise I can't wait for him to build up to whatever it is he's building up to. To be honest, I think he would make a great villain for the series, but that's just me being a crazy speculator.
Now, what I really want to talk about here, is the perfect, wonderful and incredible character of Christopher Jonathan Herondale. That kid is literally my favorite character in the series, hands down, and he just showed up at the end of book one. His relationship with Ty is so beautiful, the way he express himself about him, it makes it impossible for me not to ship it. I'm pretty sure half the fandom feels the same way I do, I think they're meant to be together, and not platonically, like parabatai or any of that stuff: they should be in love. And I think we're building up to it very nicely. Kit is a really interesting character with so much history, we're wired to adore Herondales (like Will, Jace is the clear exception for me) and Kit is just so likeable. He's so empathetic to everything around him, he loves with all his heart and he feels like he's meant to be with the Blackthornes through thick and thin. It's beautiful. Also, that forced Livvy experimentation thing? Good deflating technique. Glad it didn't work, though. I think his heart belongs with Ty, period.
Now, I think Cassandra got everything right here. She did her homework of expanding everything faerie, she showed us the infamous Unseelie King, and created the conflict needed to move the series along. Also, Annabel Blackthorn was a recurring character once she was resurrected, the return of Malcolm as a gooey zombie was incredible (and so visual, the descriptions were on point) and the fight scenes were just impeccable. She redeemed characters that seemed lost (Kieran, Mark and Cristina will turn into the next Jem x Will x Tessa threesome, just you wait) and added new "villains" to the story. The Cohort was Valentine 2.0 but I mean, bigotry still exists after Hitler so history repeats itself all the time.
Also, the deaths. The sacrifices, the poeticness of them, the need for them. I understood it completely. I have no claims to know better, or to feel like they're a waste. The deaths in this book were absolutely necessary to move the plot along, except maybe the last one that *might* have been pure shock factor but I do think it might serve a purpose on the long run. They were perfect. I have no complaints.
And finally, Diana Wrayburn is basically my new favorite character after being so suspicious of her last book. Oh, man. I didn't see her story coming at ALL and I'm so glad Cassandra still strives for inclusion in all her books to present every single spectre of the human condition.
Oh! And also, THE SPANISH! She fixed the wonky Spanish from last book! I'm so GLAD she did! Everything said by Cristina, Diego and Jaime was grammatically accurate and I was DELIGHTED. So delighted. Oh, God.
Anyway, I will talk more extensively about this entire book in Spanish probably soon. So look forward to it!

The book started pretty slow and at the end everything broke into pieces. 80% of the book is pure heartbreak and at times it really hurts to read it, but I live for the amazing Blackthorne family moments.
