I read the first book of this series (Kiss of Deception) and really loved it, and then I heard that everyone said that the first book really sets up the series and it takes off and the second and third book are even better. Whoever said that was severely wrong. This book was so slow for 90% of the book and I was so mad that
Lia didn't choose Kaden. He was obviously the better choice because they could relate on so many levels and Rafe was being needy and unhelpful.
The ending was too fast paced and it was such a slap in the face. It definitely could have been better paced with better decisions. Also, it really bothered me how "not-like-other-girls" Lia became from the first book to this book. She acted like wearing a dress was the end of the world. I really can't say much about the book because I actually had to force myself to read through some of the slowest chapters of this book. Also, I don't think it needed all those POVs. It was just distracting to a certain degree.

The Heart of Betrayal is a more than worthy sequel to A Kiss of Deception. However, although it picks up right after events from the first novel, there are some major differences between the two. The world building is more advanced, and the novel shifts more to military strategy than romance. Lia’s character’s has progressed as well, into a strong, confident protagonist. It does fall into some lulls, common in most second novel fantasy’s, but I am excited to pick up the last book.
