I’m devouring this series nonstop!
Jinshi is such an intriguing character, and I love how Maomao constantly provokes him. He’s hitting peak yearning levels, while Maomao’s dense moments make me want to bang my head against a wall, but honestly I love being in her head. Her narration is delightfully skewed and somehow makes everything fresher. That intense scene? I see it as the clash of two flawed, stressed people who care deeply for each other — both total freaks, honestly.
Plot bomb incoming, but the switched at birth reveal blew my mind (I mean it's been hinted here and there but now it's actually confirmed by Ah Duo), now we know he’s actually the Emperor’s firstborn son, not his brother like we were led to believe. Jinshi and his fifty different identities, honestly. The story keeps throwing layers at us and somehow makes the slow burn worth it.

I've followed the manga and anime but it's my first time reading the light novel for the Apothecary Diaries. I was a bit wary but the tone of the text is so similar to the manga and anime that it was very easy to imagine the scenes.
I can't help but admire the author's way of adding hints and clues, sometimes many novels prior to when it becomes relevant.
The story felt a bit slow, but it's not surprising as it's starting a new story. Although it was a very swift moment, Basen and Lishu *had a moment* which made me surprisingly happy.
