I really enjoyed this book.  The story line was fun and the mystery within the story was a fun add.

3.5 stars. Slow start, but wrapped up quite nicely.

Okay, so it took a little bit of pushing to get into this book. For me it felt like it started off really slow, and I really had to persevere to get through it. Once I started getting deeper into the book though, it started getting a little better. Probably around page 80 is when I started getting really into it and actually wanted to read it. The book wasn't bad overall. I thought it was a great concept and the characters were interesting. It was a fun and simple read.

One thing that did annoy me was that it seemed like Emma's narration was all over the place. One minute she had the voice of an actual sixteen year old girl, and the next she was saying phrases that I'd expect from my grandma. It was pretty weird. I also found it weird that Charlotte was such a prominent figure at the beginning of the book and then she's basically pointless as a character as the story as it goes on. Sure, she does that one thing for Emma towards the middleish/end of the book, but nothing really came of it? I don't know, I just feel unsatisfied with how the book played out with some of the characters. I felt like they were left as loose ends.

Ultimately I enjoyed the book, but I only gave it three stars because some of the writing was weird and I felt like there were some minor loose ends that left me a little unsatisfied with the book. I realize that the book was translated from German, so maybe some of the issues I have were because something was lost in translation between the languages? I also read this in its ARC form, so maybe certain aspects of the book were edited between this version and the final published version. Overall though, I liked the book and while I'm not sure I would recommend this book to a friend, I do think I will look at some of the author's other work in the future.
