Children of Virtue and Vengeance is a very good middle book - and one I think will be love or hate it, as I can see from some reviews

It’s very much a book about war and how stupid it can be - especially when miscommunication results in senseless loss. The characters are all convinced they’re right and that occasionally leads them to do stupid things, but it feels realistic rather than mind boggling.

The excellent world building continues - the set pieces in this sequel are particularly spectacular.

Also that ending hits HARD. We trip the line into something that’s an un-ignorable mirror of the past. I need to read the sequel but I’m also dreading the fate of these characters (which is a good thing when it comes to stakes). There’s a solid line of hope through this series, and my only worry going forward is that the end will be too depressing.

World building was amazing as in book 1. I struggled with the path the characters took this time around though.

I found this continuation of the story to be disjointed, sloppy and confusing. Lots of unexplained events and jumps in storyline.

I thought the war vs. peace discourse was tedious and not as nuanced as it could have been. I was also exasperated with one of the main characters and how self-righteous and superior she acted, so this wasn’t an enjoyable read.

Talk about a cliff hanger here. Woah, come prepared. Tomi has done it again with the second book in this series.

Character development was wonderful. I have too much to say, I am just wrapping my mind around the book and I need to start the third asap.

I didn’t know you were allowed to repeat the exact same plot and call it a sequel. Not a single person made any character development. Mama Agba was cool though
