I barely have any words! I am a very emotional person, & all the grief & loss in this book just tore me apart. BUT I loved every minute of it! I flew through this book, I could not put it down!
Based on Sarah J Maas’ other books I kept expecting Hunt to flip a switch & become another Tamlin; but I am so glad that never happened! I love Bryce! & I love Hunt! I love Ruhn! & I loved Danika! And though I didn’t know him much, I loved Conner, & whenever Bryce talked about him, I always started tearing up! I teared up with Danika too. But something about the not knowing what could have been with Conner makes me super sad! Atleast with Danika she knew what they had, what they were. Conner never had that chance & it just kills me!

This book hit me in the feels sooo much, & I’m not fully healed from the last book I read either, so together, I’m just falling off a cliff! Thanks Romantasy books!

This book needed so much more editing and thought, it’s ridiculous.

If this didn’t connect back to ACOTAR then I would have DNF’d half way through out of boredom and frustration, but, alas.

Thank you Graphic Audio for making your adaptation of this book! I really struggled trying to read this TWICE, and I'm a huge Maas fan. I think I was so focused on trying to understand this new world with its history, magic vs tech systems, politics, and locations that I never got a chance to learn to like the characters. The Graphic Audio did a great job with helping me break up narration and voices, and it allowed me to see the full picture of what was happening. I also really enjoyed Bryce's voice actress - her growly, deep, and sarcastic voice made her fun and juxtaposed her moments of vulnerability well. My only note on this first part is that it was pretty disturbing listening to the tape of Danika - no spoilers, that's all I'm going to say on that. I get that it was supposed to be, but hearing it echoed with me much longer than both times I read it on paper. So good job? But also, ouch. Part two comes out today, so I'll try to wrap up the story and see if my 4.5 stands - already an increase from 3 stars before!

I feel like I’m cheating on Silver Flames because I don’t know if I like this one better.

I love them equally.

Bryce, half human/half fae, as been asked to assist in finding the demon who has been terrorizing Crescent City. She will be working alongside Hunt, a fallen angel and slave who is the personal assassin of an archangel. As they work along side each other, their relationship develops, but each is hiding some huge secrets from one another.

I found it interesting how the magical and fantasy elements in this world were completely out in the open. Humans, who generally are the oppressors of magical creatures, were actually the oppressed in this book. Those with powers were inherently privileged in this world. This was a great way to build up a story with a half human as the protagonist.

I really liked Bryce and Hunt and how their relationship developed slowly as they learned to trust and respect one another. I felt like they were both extremely well developed characters with clear motivations.
I was waiting for a reveal that she had some kind of magical power, but I did not expect that she would be the most powerful starborn. I LOVED that Danika was her anchor, it just brought it all back to the incredible bond and trust the two women had.

There was almost too much emphasis on the world building, every little thing was described. And the first 1/3 if the book was very slow. That said, the last 1/3 of the book was fast paced and action packed!

I felt like there was too much focus on the human rebellion and not enough on the angel rebellion. The angel rebellion played more of a role in this book and it would have been great to get more of that history on Hunt.

Tropes: urban fantasy, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, age gap, slow burn, mystery
