I had no idea what this book was about before I went into it. It is very different than other Sarah J Mass books. It's less of an epic story (like Throne of Glass), and the stakes just aren't that high.

I can't tell you that I am a fan of urban fantasy. There were a few times of lucidity during this reading journey when I would ask myself, "What am I even reading right now"? An angel watching basketball? Seriously? Something about taking fantasy creatures, like angels and mermaids, and putting them into a "real world" setting makes it slightly cringe.

I am sure you could pick this book apart and note all of its problems, but at the end of the day, I had a good time reading it, and that's what matters to me.

Okkkkk so the start of this was a bit rough despite knowing it would be heavy on the world building. I wasn’t really a fan of all the modern day tech at first either. But once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down. There was so much I predicted and so much I still didn’t see coming. SJM really knows how to write and hide secrets.

4.5 stars. I still have so many questions and theories.
