Sequel to the New Policeman. Interesting characters, the beginning is a little slow, but the ending and is quite good with just the right twists. US Release May 28, 2008

This is a sequel to The New Policeman, which has long been a favourite of mine. This has more or less the same setting, some of the same characters, and manages to capture the same feeling, and although it didn't quite hit the spot for me in the same way as TNP. There is one particular element in the story which I find jarring, and it's mainly this that knocks my rating down to only-just-4. Otherwise, it's a very enjoyable read and I'd recommend it.

The last time I read this I was either nine or ten and because of that I couldn't really remember many of the details. In my mind it was high time to re-read it and it was so worth it. Kate Thompson's writing is beautiful and takes you gently by the hand straight into the story. This book works extremely well as a stand-a-lone and once I have read the other two in the series I will be able to decide whether or not the series works as a whole, but I do have high hopes for it.
