A Louisiana Native Author!
A con-artist using a secret identity? Yes, please!
First Lie Wins is an enjoyable, fast-paced read with plenty of twists and turns along the way. In some ways, it vibes well with Where the Crawdads Sing, while at other times it feels like Ocean's 8.
Great for a summer or weekend read.

the perfect popcorn thriller to binge read! i read it on audio and loved the narrator as well. i couldn't listen to the whole thing at once but i sneaked a little audiobook time whenever i could because i was really intrigued by the plot twists and was even surprised by a few of them. i was a bit iffy when i realized ashley elston was originally a YA author because i don't have the highest opinions of YA mysteries - but i'll definitely keep checking out whatever adult titles she puts out next.
I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I had read some reviews saying it was bad, and some saying it was five stars amazing!
It was a good story and I enjoyed the secret undercover element of it. Granted, some parts I suppose did need a little suspension of disbelief, but so what, that’s what you’re supposed to do with books and movies… right?
For me personally it’s a 3.5, it’s definitely not a 5 star book.
