dnf. enough with this asinine sally rooney inspired writing. this felt too wanna be whilst also flatlining. also, why are all of the hipsters not using speech marks anymore? is everyone suddenly inspired by james joyce? sally rooney is ruining books.

Drags on with no real sense of purpose, mixed messages between the memories and present, not sure what the intention was there. Would’ve preferred if the entire book was about the characters childhood instead of being majority full modern day scenes

I recieved an ARC of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I couldn't get into it because of the writing style. There are very few line breaks, and no dialogues at all. I don't see the point in this stylistic choice, since it was a story like any other that didn't seem to benefit in any way from being written like that, apart from making the mundane things that were happening very, very boring and slow. The little prologue by the authors made me very curious and eager to read this story, but it immediately became apparent I wasn't going to be able to get through it because of the writing style.

this felt kind of like a warning about who i could end up being if i moved to the city after undergrad and befriended too many artists. i found it quite funny though, at the less serious points!

Mudflowers wastes no time pulling the reader in to a slog of grief and anxiety and love and pain, and barely offers a moment for you to come up for air. This book is intense and unwavering, which works at some points but becomes really overwhelming at others. I appreciated the depictions of love through both expected and unconventional relationships, but I’m not sure that Waterman really made any solid point about it.
