If they'd just leave him to his cozy bookshop and his quiet life he wouldn't keep getting in the way of their nefarious plans and making friends along the way, even if some of them have issues with him calling them friends. Anne Walker is one of them, she has serious issues with how he dealt with some people trying to kill him and now she's missing. To add to his issues his former master is back and looking for him to rejoin the fold. Alex is such a character, fairly determined not the get involved but loyal to a fault.

This series gets better and better. In Hidden Alex has to find his way to Anne who has vanished.

Old and new foes intertwine to obstruct and distract.

Can Alex and Anne face up to their dark pasts?
This series is great and I can't stop binging it.

Anne is kidnapped again, this time we get top learn about her time as a dark apprentice. We also get to meet her former master Sagash and venture into his shadow realm where Anne lived during her time with him.

This is mainly the story of Alex's adventure to rescue her. This is the slowest installment in the series so far but there is still quite a bit of action later on.

We also get to meet Alex's old master Richard Drakh who has returned from wherever he was for the last 10 years. He is building his organization back up to get involved with the mage world once again. I imagine nothing good can come of that. We will see what happens in the world in later books.

The best in the series, I loved the Shadow Realm stuff. The author's habit of describing everything over and over in each book continued, and is the only thing I hate about the series. It would be like if JKR had described what Harry's wand, cloak and map was and what it did, in each book in the same ways. Other than that, damn good book. Gildart Jackson is a wonderful narrator.
