This is just catnip. Broody danger boy, misfit found family, crazy magics and running from bad guys.
This one got a bit dark in the torture and child assault directions, but overall more respectful of the audience and characters than I anticipated.

Der Band war ja mal viel besser als der letzte. Wenn mir auch hier ein bisschen noch etwas gefehlt hat. Ich habe so das Gefühl; dass Benedict Jacka es nicht so mit guten Anfängen hat, das Ende war aber sehr schön. Genauso wie alles, was Figurendynamiken angeht gut gemacht war.
Ich muss wirklich sagen, dass die Hauptfigur und die Nebenfiguren extrem gut harmonieren, weil keine*r davon ein Pappaufsteller ist. Das gefällt mir sehr gut. Der Plot war dafür, denke ich, okay, genauso wie alles, was an Magie zu lesen war. So langsam wird das Erzählen wieder cleverer als im letzten Band und man merkt richtig, dass die Reihe insgesamt an Fahrt aufnimmt.
Mir fehlt immer noch etwas mehr Atmosphäre und sprachlich schönerer Stil, aber was nicht ist kann ja noch werden. Es kommen ja noch ein paar Bände.

Alex is now living alone, and has repaired the upstairs apartments. Luna is concerned about Anne. In fact, she wants Alex to offer for her to move back in. He visits her, but it doesn’t go well. However, when Luna arrives upset that no one can reach Anne, he reluctantly goes in search of her and discovers someone has kidnapped her from her apartments. The Council Keepers of the Order of the Star are on the case, and Alex finds himself working with Sonder. Yippie!

These really do lend themselves to binge-reading. Everything has consequences in later books...
I have to admit, Anne has been getting on my nerves, so it was hard to feel too bad for her in this book. Particularly since I think it's pretty much her own fault she gets into trouble. (But maybe I just think that because she irritates me.)
The light v dark mage thing gets even *more* muddled here. Also, there are some really, really messed up mage laws. (But I suppose we already knew that.)
Still enjoyable, but after five of these in like 3 weeks I think it might be time for a break from this series.
FYI, This book features almost no Luna.
