Book two of the Raleigh Raptors series and I don’t know how it could get any better. I absolutely loved Roman and Teagan. They are the ultimate friends to lovers pairing. They’ve been best friends since they were toddlers, growing up next door to one another. Roman’s known that she’s the one since they were teenagers. It took another girl breaking his heart in college for Teagan to realize her feelings for him. Neither act on their feelings for years, afraid to lose their best friend. It’s now years later. Roman is playing professional ball. Teagan is selling her art. They still hang out all the time but things are different with Teagan dating his teammate.
I refuse to give away any spoilers, as this story is too good and you need to read it in order to experience it for yourself. Just know that Roman and Teagan are the ultimate friends to lovers and their mothers are probably equally excited about their union, if not more.

Best friends turned lovers story.. loved it
Teagan did get on my nerves some and kinda felt bad for her.

I have loved all of Samantha's books equally, but Roman and Teagan's story is probably my favorite so far. I knew in 'Nixon' that these two were beyond made for each other. Just knowing the small backstory of them in that book, you knew they are the definition of soulmates. This book just justifies that thought.
Samantha also did a beyond amazing job describing what victims/survivors like Teagan go through, especially on a psychological level. People can see the physical wounds, but it's the emotional/psychological ones that no one can or will ever see. The fight that Teagan constantly has with herself just shows the constant fight that those in abusive relationships go through, even if they've been able to physically leave the person who is hurting them.
Though the book is titled 'Roman' really this is Teagan's story. Don't get me wrong, Roman did an amazing job of simply being there for Teagan when she needed him most and showing her what real love trully looks like. This is still her story. It's a story of surviving and learning to trust yourself not to get lost in what others think of you, but what you think of yourself.

I was pleasantly surprised by this! SW's writing is very clever, and there were quite a few moments where I was expecting something super cliche to happen, and she totally subverted that expectation. I did feel like the story was a bit rushed and there were lots of big time jumps. Also, I thought we'd get a scene where T revealed everything to R, as she'd alluded to in the beginning, but we didn't get that.

Love, pure love!
I'm not usually a fan of Friends to Lovers but these two were precious! I loved them in Nixon's book and was so excited that they were the next installment of the Raptors series. While I am a bigger hockey hunk fan than football, these boys stole my heart!
Teagan is brave, and smart, and overcoming a physically and emotionally abusive relationship in the safety and security of her best friends arms. You can feel the depth of their connection and how completely supportive Roman is of her and her independence.
There's never a moment I wanted to put this down, or a thought of "it would have been better if..." This was just a wonderful read from start to finish.
As a huge Whiskey fan, who has read ever Shark, every Reaper and now every Raptor book I am astounded at how she keeps it fresh and new with interesting, deep characters I connect with every time!

Another day, another five star read by the great Samantha Whiskey!
Another overwhelmingly delicious man to bring me to my knees.
I mean can we talking about that first kiss though!?
HOT DAAAYUUUM.
Roman was delectable in every way. To be inside his head and feel his love for Teagan and the lengths he’d go for her I can’t even stand it.
And Teagan...she was a fiercely brave woman. She had been through the storm and made it the other side scars and all.
Samantha Whiskey brought it from the very beginning with Roman and I wasn’t ready. Whiskey even brought me to tears unexpectedly so it’s safe to say I was in my feelings with this one but I don’t regret a single word.

Teagan and Roman had a connection in Nixon's book that was undeniable. I was hoping they would have a friends to lovers story and I'm so glad they did.
It was painful, gloriously sweet and deliciously hot.
Not going to lie, I'm a bit disappointed there wasn't more to read.
I just loved it that much.

I shamelessly devour free romances on Kindle Unlimited, and unlike many free books, this author has actual talent as a writer. This book was surprisingly emotional, as it dealt with the fallout of years of emotional and abuse that culminated in actual physical abuse. The book basically opens with the immediate moments after the abuse becomes physical for the first time. So fair warning there as far as triggers.
If you worry about triggering yourself, I don't want to push anyone to read this, but I will say this: as someone who's been in abusive relationships and is also still extremely insecure as a result, I really loved this book-but full disclaimer both my abusive relationships were at least 5 years ago and so I've had some time to recover myself. I might not have been able to read this even a few years ago. The heroine is mentally very much like me, but she has a strength I didn't have for a long time. She leaves the abuser as soon as it gets physical, she takes self-defense classes, finds an apartment complex with a clear mind for security and immediately installs a security system like an intelligent woman, and while she obviously still fears the abuser, she is extremely strong and doesn't allow it to control her life.
So, if you're also an abuse survivor, all I can say is that I found this an inspiring yet realistic portrayal of the scars of abuse FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS/HAD A SUPPORT SYSTEM. Roman and her friends and family are there to catch Teagan and that is a major part of her recovery. If these were real people, I would say someone with the same emotional and mental scars as Teagan but that didn't have a fantastic support system would probably end up in a much worse place than she does emotionally and mentally in the end.
And finally, even the usual romance novel relationship roadblock is legit in this book (surprisingly, not actually related to abuse.) Roman's issue is real and actually makes sense as a possible tragic roadblock. And mild, very vague spoiler: I LOVED that it wasn't miraculously resolved, and as a couple they really do go with one of the other options (which is confirmed in the next book.)
