In my opinion, this book was kind of stupid... I guess it just depends on the person reading it. I thought that the characters were stereotypical and that the plot was also kind of boring...

Each character well represents the middle-school experience and both Krista and Daniel face their own challenges during their sixth-grade year. Not only does Daniel struggle to regain his mobility after being partially paralyzed, he must also deal with his mother's mysterious extended vacation. Krista yearns to "do the right thing" and be there for Daniel while also pining away for Bobby, the cutest boy on 27th Avenue.

On my favorite things about this audiobook were the performances of the two actors (Jennifer Ikeda, Jonathan Todd Ross). Each woman in Krista's life sounded distinct and I had no trouble keeping them straight. Another part of the story that I really liked were the subtle differences between the sexes. Krista picked up on body language and nuances between the boys and girls in her class, while Daniel seemed oblivious (or he didn't bother to mention it if he did).

One part of the story that really frustrated me, however, was that for as much as Krista yearned to be there for Daniel, she did very little to follow up on her pledge to do so. It also took her nearly the entire school year to realize that Bobby was not the boy for her and that maybe what she wanted was right in front of her. Then again, that is pretty realistic. Crushes are often hard to recover from in middle school.

I just didn't like it. One star seems harsh but If that says you didn't like it then I'm going to be truthful. Now, It's not necessarily her writting. Maybe more what she writes about. The mother's selfish ways made me boil. I can't find a way to sympathize with this mid life crisis mom! She should have figured that she wanted to continue performing BEFORE she GOT MARRIED and HAD a CHILD!!! You must plan to do something andthen you just got to stick with it. You can't just pack up and leave when so many are depending on you. Maybe my mom had some stuff she would like to do after she had kids but couldn't. She didn't say "I love you, but I gotta go!".
This is about the time my sister would say, "Calm down! It's just a book." Yes it is and I hate it.
Another issue: I was quite confused about David and Krista's relationship (If you can really truly have a romantic relationship at that age). In David's eyes Krista did everything right

The story is cute. It provides details on how the accident happened and the immediate aftermath, but the story seems to pick up a bit later, when Daniel is able to go back to school. Along with the usual problems twelve-year-olds encounter, Daniel's friends and classmates struggle to figure out how to act around Daniel. The accident isn't the only problem Daniel has either. He's got a crush on a girl who is clueless and his mother all of a sudden makes changes to her life that severely affect Daniel's.

The auxiliary characters add dimension to the overall story. Daniel's parents and their struggles following the accident; Lainie's relationship with her mother; the tension between the Kaufman's and the Rosen's; and the dynamic of Krista's group of friends. I like that the novel doesn't completely center around Daniel in his temporarily handicapped state because individuals who are handicapped (temporarily or otherwise) have more to their lives than that.

This is an enjoyable audio book. Daniel and Krista are represented by different readers, and they both do a good job of expressing the characters emotions and changing their voices to represent other characters. Overall, I enjoyed this story and having it read to me.

This book is wonderful. I just love the story and how the characters change and develop. The author also made it so real... all the conversations and thoughts are just as natural as any teenage girl/boy. This book makes me smile and touched. I really liked it :)
