Wooo!!! Yeah baby! That’s what I’ve been waiting for!!! Wooohooo!!! Finally, we’re not in NYC and we have full committed to the desolate and alternate western fantasy world of King’s Dark Tower that I have been begging for. Ever since I finished The Gunslinger I have been craving a return to the world that drew me in from the get-go, and with Wizard and Glass I was given what was promised and then some! While it was a massive flashback novel to get most of Roland’s story off the table, King does so with such grace and machismo that you’re immediately sucked in and wondering what horrible fate could await our dear Roland? Couple that with major connections to The Stand and the greater King-verse and you have a solid tale worth telling!

This book was just not it for me. I struggled through the entire middle and only really liked the first 70 and last 50 pages. I just wasn’t interested in the backstory that was told unfortunately. For sure by least favorite Dark Tower so far, and my least favorite Stephen King book for that matter (I haven’t read Insomnia).

Maybe the best Fantasy book I've ever read.

Often in epic fantasy you are strung along and given little pay outs along the way until the big pay off in the last book.

This is the mid point in the series and the pay out was huge. I have no idea where King takes it from here, but this book made the journey worth it.

This story, told almost entirely in flashback, derails the narrative momentum of the series as a whole. The story itself was alright, I just don't think this was the right time in the series to tell it. I'm not sure how relevant it is to the series moving forward.
