Tissue warning

Finally read the last Discworld novel. It's not his best book, but it's a pretty near perfect end to the series, even though, as the afterword reveals, we will now never know about the new adventures he was clearly planning. The book has some goodbyes (keep tissues handy), and some new characters creep in. I'm grateful to have been able to read this book, because it brings together so many beautiful elements across the entire Disc-verse. Thank you Sir Terry Pratchett <3

Not the best Pratchett ever, but a pretty good Pratchett is still something that's well worth reading. Wish I had reread the earlier Tiffany Aching novels as prep, but that's on me, not on this book.

Also: Chapter Two? I was so not prepared for that, even though it was done right.

This book, which was probably not complete to Pratchett's own standards before his death, is still fascinating and both heart-breaking and heart-warming, particularly early on, as it deals with a major figure in Discworld lore coming to characteristically pragmatic terms with her own death. It's hard not to read this as Pratchett's further mediations on his own mortality, which he also very publicly discussed.
